you hit the nail on the head -- practically speaking lesser powers have no choice. The reality is world courts do not provide them any leverage ---

Universal principles?? If they are universal, we don't need a world court -- if they aren't, a world court won't make them so.

I think the world court, and worldwide financial institutions simply become a bully pulpit for the most strong.

Regarding being in the US -- you are right -- there is nothing that guarantees the persistence of the status quo -- in fact there are some reasons to believe that a shift is taking place, IMO.

How I feel about the matter is irrelevant -- larger forces at work than I can influence -- but whatever happens, the more mighty nation will set the agenda -- whether it be in a world court or through individual bilateral agreements.

For this reason, I believe it behooves the US to promote policies that make for truly free trade and where possible reciprocal type agreements with other nations on issues of cooperation towards ends in the interest of all. What we disagree about is the means --

Our strength isn't simply in weapons and our weakness isn't in the existence of weapons outside this country, IMO.
