In NJ you can't get a grocery bag at the grocery store,unless you buy a non-recyclable tote bag for $3.


Same in New York (prices vary).

Although the way around that,
at least in the po' parts of town
where the ragged people go
is to use the clear plastic bags
meant for meats and produce,
some of which are fairly sizable.

Some stores will even keep them behind the counter
for those who do not have a bag and do not want to
(or often cannot) pay for a new one.
