SES Americom with its fleet of 36 satellites and many partners including Cisco and Scientific Atlanta set-top boxes, still continue to delay their roll out. It is suspected that lack of Mpeg4 encoders caused the problems on the decoders in the set-top boxes since year 2005. And the situation has not changed much, if ambition of doing HDTV only in Mpeg4 continues.

Their luck may change, if Mpeg4 is restricted to base 320x240 pixel resolution, then zoom to other resolution of other formats including HDTV. Set-top boxes has to have multiple decoders to use other media already successful using other decoders. In other words, media and decoders have to be matched in ipTV. Mpeg4 will never be one size fits all.

Once, this complexity is sorted out, ipTV will move along with Eagle investing some time and money doing media testing with as many as possible Mpeg4 encoders in compliance with decoder. Media specific encoder/decoder certification has to be established to get this ipTV business approved for roll out.

EAGB, Eagle broadband has to seek more partners of Mpeg4 encoders, to test all media filtered thru individual encoders for standard Mpeg4 decoders. Most Mpeg4 encoders work with some media but no all media formats. Broadcasting station camera Mpeg4 has the least problems. Movies have the most problems, some converted from 35 mm film formats. May have to go thru new Mpeg4 camera optically for full compliance?
