12/5/14 Contest update
As we head into the Contest homestretch, biotechs appear to have lots of steam left. (No, I’ve not gone short IBB and am trying to jinx it.)
Meanwhile, checking Friday’s close, the Contest median closed up 13.54% YTD (vs. up 12.59% YTD a week ago), the larger-cap Nasdaq Biotech Index, closed up 36.22% YTD (vs. up 34.19% YTD a week ago) and the Nasdaq Composite Index closed up 14.47% YTD (vs. up 14.73% YTD a week ago).
Although the Array binimetinib news may not have been cosmic, it was good enough to put some significant distance between Contest leader DIEGO’s portfolio, now up 111.55% YTD, and the runner ups. But there’s still sufficient time for second place DEWDIL’s portfolio, up 98.41% YTD, or third place WATCHIT’s portfolio, up 96.88% YTD, to pull a Silky Sullivan and take the crown.
At Friday's close, 30 of the 46 Contest portfolios were in the black, while 13 of the 46 beat the NBI. The median Contest portfolio stock (XLRN) is down -5.15% YTD.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks ranked by % Gained and % Lost for the week. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: None
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.)
Have a safe & fun weekend biotechies!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
