Tony, I don't understand your response. The URL's I cited were from Tom's Hardware Guide, not Mike Magee. The first one in November stated that "at least" 1.7 GHz would be released in Q1. The early roadmaps are all very confusing, because it is not clear whether "Northwood" refered to a new core on the 0.13 process, or a new socket on the 0.18 process. Apparently, it refers to the new 0.13 process and the 478 pin 0.18 chip is nameless.

I've read that, electrically, the 478 pin socket just includes more power and ground pins, and that it is smaller. I suspect a 2GHz P4 is impossible on 0.18u without these new pins. I believe it will also contain a liquid that may ameleorate the "hot spot" problem whic is the cause of clock throttling.
