Samsung, Toshiba retain lead in Q4 NAND ranking Peter Clarke (02/01/2010 10:29 AM EST) URL: eetimes.com LONDON — The six companies fighting for NAND flash memory market share retained their positions in the fourth quarter of 2009. Samsung and Toshiba led with market shares of 38.6 percent and 3.7 percent respectively, according market research company DRAMexchange. Micron on 9.9 percent was only $5 million in sales ahead of Hynix, which had a market share of 9.8 percent. The average selling price for NAND flash memory increased by about 5 percent sequentially in the fourth quarter of 2009, the market research company said. As total branded NAND flash memory bit shipment increased about 10 percent sequentially so the 4Q09 overall branded NAND flash makers' revenue increased 15.7 percent to $3.881 billion from $3.355 billion in 3Q09. Samsung retained its leadership of the branded NAND flash memory market with $1.498 billion in revenue in 4Q09 and a 38.6 percent market share. In second ranked position was Toshiba with sales of $1.267 billion and 32.7 percent market share. Micron ranks No.3 with 9.9 percent market share and $385 million in NAND flash memory revenue while Hynix lay fourth with $380 million revenue. Intel and Numonyx lay in fifth and sixth spots with sales of $270 million and $80 million, respectively. For the full year of 2009 Samsung retained leadership with 37.9 percent market share and $4.575 billion in revenue, followed by Toshiba with 34.2 percent market share and $4.131 billion revenue. Micron ranks third with 9.4 percent market share and $1.137 billion sales while Hynix is fourth with $1.103 billion revenue. Intel and Numonyx had NAND flash memory sales of $837 million and $297 million, respectively.
