Here is a company release from a month ago that is worth reading again as we wait for the earning release. So many people are focused on the earnings when they should focus on the net line additions (NLA). NLA is a leading valuation method of most insiders as to how the company is doing and are used to determine stock valuations. Buy on any dips.
2/08/00 - e.spire Installs Record Number of Access Lines in Fourth Quarter 1999 ANNAPOLIS JUNCTION, Md., Feb 8, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- e.spire Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: ESPI), the communications company for the networked economy, today announced that it achieved gross installations of nearly 38,000 access lines during the fourth quarter of 1999, representing a 45% increase over the previous quarter's gross adds of 26,000 lines. e.spire, which made tremendous progress during 1999 toward eliminating its resale base, continues to focus on adding on-switch customers, a strategic initiative the Company adopted in December 1998. Access lines installed during the quarter ended December 31, 1999 totaled 37,802, bringing cumulative lines in service to 164,290, up from 131,965 lines at the end of the third quarter.
In addition to the strong growth in on-switch installations, e.spire also shed another 3,200 low-margin resale lines. On-switch access lines now exceed more than 95% of total lines in service. Sales efforts, coupled with efficiencies in back-office systems, including on-line ordering and monitoring of service, have enabled e.spire to accomplish these results.
The Company's financial results for both the fourth quarter and full year ended December 31, 1999, which it expects to release in March, are based on many factors, including the number of access lines and other operational data.
