<< I searched the Q4 1999 earnings report over at JC (I really love his transcript archives). Jerry said there in order to achieve 30% market share they had to sell half of their production to the corporate market. However, he did give no date. Hm, I wonder if AMD still needs to sell 50% to the corporate market to reach the goal? There's certainly a limit how much market share they can gain in the consumer market (no, not 100% ;)). >>

That doesn't make too much sense to me to begin with. They have 22% of the market share on basically 0% corporate market. If they maintain consumer share, and sell an equal amount to the corporate to have 50% corporate, unless the markets expanded greatly they'd have substantially more then 30% of the total share. Unless they lose consumer share to get corporate share, which could be possible if they are limited by capacity. Either way, I think they could hit 30% on substantially less then half their sales to the corporate markets. Though we get into a fine line when corporations use consumer lineup pcs.

Either way, I think if AMD just re-gains laptop share to the same percentage as desktop, that the total share would jump up considerably, and that wouldn't necessarily add any corporate share.
