First job I had out of college was a plant next to (but not part of) GE's Radio Receiver operation. It was unionized. The union threatened to strike. The company said that operation was already in trouble because od cheap Asian imports and if they struck for more wages and bennies, they would simply have to close it down because it would run at a loss. The union struck anyway. The company closed the plant.

So the net result was the company lost what little, if any, profit it got from that operation AND ALL the employees lost their jobs. This was in a small town in upstate NY where there were nom other businesses of any size. I imagine the employees had to live in poverty (if they had enough saved to allow that) for the rest of their lives or take a forced move to find a job. Any job, lower pay or not.
