You're right about porting:
I understand (sorry I don't have the link handy) that software tools will be available
this Fall that will allow, say, a Windows or Mac application to be recompiled for
Rhapsody fairly easily.


Metrowerks Latitude product recompiles existing code to various platforms including (upcoming) Rhapsody!

In addition, the ever-enthusiastic, all-seeing, all-knowing <g> Robert K. Morgan of Apple Recon has now recognized the potential importance of the Rhapsody porting features:

As a side note, Metrowerks Codewarrior is, far and away, the programming tool of choice for Be Developers and seems deeply committed to that platform as well. MTWKF looks to be positioned really well no matter which platforms (MacOS, Rhapsody, BeOS, NT, Win95, Java, Solaris, SGI IRIX, etc.) fly and which die.
