The price of rhodium has been volatile in the past - in July 1990 it peaked at $7,000 per troy ounce (Engelhardt base price). A lot of money!

I asked around in other forums and someone said that rhodium is used in some way in the manufacture of jet turbine blades. And small amounts are used in specialist electronic equipment - and possibly in some semi-conductor chips.

The amounts of rhodium used in such application appear to be small, so I assume that the usage is not price sensitive.
