We bought ourselves a new 20" LCD viewsonic monitor for christmas.
It tells us that the best resolution is 1600x1200 at 60HZ.
The old 17" moniter was set for 1028 x something at "24 bit" color.
When I try to set the resolution to 1600x1200 on the new monitor,as recommended, my only option is 256 bit for colour. It makes all the photos in my picture file go weird colors.
I have an Intel 82810 graphics controller on win XP home edition, celeron processor.
Can someone recommend a site I can go to and learn about this stuff ( 8 bit color?? 16 bit color???)
I'm sure I installed all the right drivers for the monitor.
Maybe the graphics controller is too old??
Dell 'Puter is only 2 years old.

Thanks for any hints.
