Good Points, Toby.

You are absolutely right that incremental improvements in AMLCDs will be the greatest risk to FED manufacturers.

The incremental improvements in silicon circuity have kept silicon ahead of gallium arsenide for the last thirty years. There has always been a significant technical advantage in GaAs, but the development dollars go so silicon. Next time Intel designs a new processor, you can safely bet that they will start with a silicon wafer.

Unlike the GaAs vs Si scenario, displays are selected by end users based on how they "look". Having viewed a number of LCDs and FEDs side by side, I have quite a bit of confidence that FEDs will be able compete and to gather a significant share of the market. I am looking forward very eagerly to the day when everyone has the opportunity to go down their local computer store and compare for themselves.
