Bill,

True, much has changed since you started with all this (I bet I'd find an Altair in your basement, if I rumaged long enough). But in a way, much is still the same. When I started in the late 70's, I purchsed a prebuilt computer and could not have built one from scratch. Programming was the interesting level to me at that point, so I taught myself assembly language and experimented. After the Mac, store bought software became sophisticated enough, that my ineterest moved to experimenting with applications. At this point my interest lay in creating a synergistic relationship between many applications. This is where the Mac really shines. These days I'm usually running at least 10 apps concurrently and God knows how many extensions.
The PC is still as much of an experimental laboratory as it was in the early days, just much more capable and complex.

Regards,

Scott
