To provide AOL's connectivity. 8^P

With AOL's 170,000 modems and 6+ million unlimited customers, AOL will be about 600,000 modems short.

(and if AOL is going to reach its goal of 10 million members by June '97, they'll need probably 400,000 more)

Does AOL have $1.2 Billion in cash laying around to buy them? I think not.

(recent deal with BBN was about $1,200/modem)

But if a person has an ISP, why would they detour through AOL to get to the Internet, using proprietary email, a horrible newsreader, and AOL's Terms of Service?
