These folks make a postage-stamp size reflective image source, a liquid crystal on silicon (LCOS) device. The original projection engines in the In-Focus projectors were a different and more expensive technology.

These LCOS devices are small chips with architectures pretty much like IC memory chips. They have the potential to be a lot cheaper than the other devices previously used by In-Focus. So, this represents a change in device and projection engine structure. It's probably what they need to stay competitive in the next few years, and a domestic supplier can really help during the early days of availability of new technology devices. Long term, the Pacific Rim will probably kick in as more inexpensive sources of supply.

Colorado MicroDisplay is a relative newcomer. At the Society for Information display conference, I asked their booth representative what distinguished them from the some dozen aspiring US suppliers of such devices. The rep said, "They can deliver them". [Who wouldn't say that?]. Other than that, I know little other than what they say in their literature.
