I noticed that short interest in Apple was up 38% over the past few weeks_according to today's Wall Street Journal anyway. Not surprisingly, we've had a number of negative posts here lately. Of course talking the stock down is pretty easy when there's not much hard news coming out of the company, and the overall market is heading south anyway.
Quick note regarding Microsofts' Windows 98: sjmercury.com. I notice that, in addition to an imbedded browser, the one other known new capability is a variation on the Macs' "Sleep" function. It's called "On Now." I also notice, if the "San Jose Mercury News" is to be believed, you're gonna need some special chipsets to run the thing. Anyway, since we have so many Windows users posting here, I thought I'd provide the link.
Back to Apple. I picked this off the "Mac OS Rumors" site:
". . . It details an apparent agreement between the clone makers and Apple -- forged some time in the past few days, quietly, as the page appears to have been initially posted yesterday -- to provide copies of Mac OS 8 at a reduced rate direct from Apple. While this is not a licensing agreement, it does hold some promise that an interim agreement has been made to provide Mac Clone users the opportunity to buy Mac OS 8 at a steep discount.
"Meanwhile, the licensing debates rage on in Cupertino and Austin. More details on that situation as they become available. . . ."
Hopefully, the clone flap will get resolved soon. BTW, everybody see the new "Rhapsody User" site? geocities.com.
