Paul - RE: "Hey, a bad quarter once in a while shouldn't be cause for alarm."

Is this really Paul Engel writing?

Man, we all got burned with ASPs.

I wonder if management knew ASPs were going to be this pitiful when they announced in December that 4.9 mil instead of 4.7 mil processors were going to be sold.

I also wonder if AMD knew that 5.5 mil processors were going to be sold when they announced that in December.

If AMD wasn't going to pre-announce, the smart thing (at least for us investors) would have been for AMD to not say anything that day about increased processor shipment. Then, earnings projections wouldn't have been raised as much as they did in the past two or so weeks and we would have met or slightly beat estimates. Of course, by announcing what they did in December, the stock price is where it was yesterday because of the announcement.

What do you people think is better - .6 mil more processors sold than expected, a lower ASP, and missed earnings expectations or .8 mil more processors sold than expected, a lower ASP, and slightly beaten or meeting earnings?

All we can do now is wait for Conference Call highlights.

BTW, I had a stop order at 29.25, .25 from the intraday low today.
