low end market. Dedicated frame relay will always be more reliable (forget ATT
for 1 minute :)) for a business critical solution than a connection to the local ISP.


Gary, frame relay works fine and is reliable, but when it comes to latency it's a dog. Maybe you have more luck with your carrier. With VPN's you can potentially map the IP directly on to ATM carried on OC-48 or OC-192. Did you see the latency guarantee on QWEST's VPN service? 95ms round-trip coast-to-coast. That's better than we can do on our DS-3 LL backbone. If an ISP came to us with this offer backed by proper SLA's, we'd jump at it.

And I'm not sure how this will really benefit ASND that much, as once VPN's
become standard fare, it will just become another checklist item for a RAC.


How many RAC vendors have the background in ATM and MPLS to set up VPN VC's? Just Cisco and Ascend, I would think.
