I think we're talking apples and oranges here. Kill the messenger kills the windows messaging service, not the MSN Windows Messenger. They're two different animals. The service allows messages to be sent on a network and is normally a grey boxed message. MSN Messenger is an instant messaging program that will start up automatically with Outlook Express if you don't tell it to or remove it. If you don't use it, go ahead and make it disappear or uninstall it. tacktech.com edit: I see you found the answer
