The latest PC Magazine Aug 2005 has a good article about all of the various major industry changes seemingly coming together at the same time, late 2006. 

Apple->Intel, Msft->Longhorn, Sony PS- MSFT Xbox - Ninteno Revolution, The Cell phone gets smarter.

In the article they also show some marketshare data from Gartner
