Trade numbers for other EU countries look probably similar.

Russia's exports to Germany are declining drastically

Russia continues to lose importance as a supplier of goods for the German economy. Due to the war of aggression on Ukraine and the sanctions imposed as a result, imports from the Russian Federation collapsed by 94.6 percent last year compared to 2021 to a value of 1.8 billion euros, according to the Federal Statistical Office. Before the start of the war and the EU's 17 packages of sanctions against Russia so far, imports from Russia amounted to 33.1 billion euros in 2021.

Exports to Russia also shrank sharply: in 2024, Germany delivered goods worth 7.6 billion euros to Russia, 71.6 percent less than in 2021.

In view of the ongoing war of aggression against Ukraine, the EU states had only put the 17th package of sanctions against Russia into force in May. Among other things, it provides for a further intensification of the crackdown on the so-called Russian shadow fleet for the transport of oil and oil products. In addition, Russia's gas exports to the EU are to be completely reduced to zero by 2027. Before the Russian share in Ukraine, the share had been 45 percent.
