The Republicans on the supreme court have been unabashedly involved in blatant partisan politics in their decisions time and again.

My usual line--it's a bit more complicated. Just off the top of the head and assuming "Republican" in the above sentence means appointed by a Republican president, I can think of several exceptions to this rule. No doubt more. There was Earl Warren, appointed by Eisenhower; William Brennan by Eisenhower; Harry Blackmun appointed by Nixon; John Paul Steven, appointed by Gerald Ford; and David Souter appointed by Bush the father.

I suspect if I looked at specific decisions I could broaden this argument--Kennedy on gay rights, Sandra Day O'Connor on the right to choose.
