Grace, I'll be happy to wake you up on the tenth split. At the rate we're going, it'll happen by 2001. This acceleration of cycles does produce an inordinate amount of stress (with no less stress coming in the upswings compared to the downswings). I suspect that the rate of information transfer and dissemination is responsible for this. Some guy predicts that Amazon will go to 400 this year, and it takes, what, two weeks? Mary Meeker foretells of an internet correction this year and it happens the same day! If you extrapolate the curves, there will be a time in the not too distant future when predictions made by the gurus will be monitored by bots and instantaneously acted upon by every computer in the world -- which will be the same as us going into a coma and waking up a few hours later to find the world has changed.
