Chatham County, N.C., leaders want all 2,200 high school students in the district to have a laptop computer.

And with US$1 million recently invested in a slew of Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) iBooks, they're halfway to their goal.

The school system will divvy out more than 1,000 laptops to teachers from all three county high schools today -- two days before classes start. Students will be able to use the laptops during classes. macnewsworld.com
