Scumbria, I think we're basically agreeing here wrt high speed microprocessor design, the beauty of long pipelines, the need to use methods like cycle stealing utilizing different phases of clocks for the most performance, etc. How about another crucial area, like 133, 200 and up MHz off chip (on motherboard) logic and system design. What does Rambus DRAM have, data that switches at 800 MHz? How many companies have the engineering experience with transmission line theory based design, necessary at these speeds for reliability, hell, just operating at all? The IBMs certainly do, Compaq (Tandem/DEC) does, Intel does, but how abut AMD, VIA, ASUS, Tyan, and the other companies that have to step up to this stuff. I wonder if they have it. Whole 'nuther breed of cat.
