As for 2002, while the Republicans were able to take control of the Senate, they only did so because the Democratic majority was so slim. They won a lousy 2 seats, and a lot of the Republicans won their races by very slim margins. Hardly a ringing mandate, even if the press acted like it was at the time. - Allen
