From the business/product point of view, the key difference is that virtually 100% of Vitesse's chips are digital, where as Anadigics is almost 100% analog, and TriQuint is 75% analog/25% digital. This means that their growth potential is tied to different sectors of the communications market. Vitesse is counting on high speed long distance fiber optic networks and high data-rate local networks (fiber or wire). Anadigics, on the other hand, is counting on growth in wireless connumications and cable TV. TriQuint sort of goes both ways, but they tend to be more like Anadigics than TriQuint.

Not to belabor the point, but here is a dictionary defination of the difference between analog and digital:

ANALOG: Quantities or representations that are variable over a continuous range are referred to as analog. In electronics, analog quantities are differentiated from digital quantities by the fact that analog variables can take an infinte number of values, but digital variables are limited to defined states (e.g. 0 or 1).

Hope that helps. I look forward to seeing someone else to the numerical analysis.

And if you like GaAs: there is another ipo on the way: RF Micro Devices. They filed their S-1 on Friday.
