Well, I tried the registry hack for W2K described here:

annoyances.org

It may have changed Autorun but the hard drive light still blinks when the machine has the CD player but not when it has the DVD-RW device.

Back with W98SE we used to talk about the OS polling the CD-ROM periodically to see if anything had been inserted that needed Autorun. But, there was a way to turn it off and the blinking (polling) stopped.

No such luck with W2K.
