Combinations in restraint of trade, not just monopolies, violate the Sherman Act. If warehouse-style office supply stores (Office Depot/ Staples) form a separate market in the mind of regulators from the overall office supply market, can one really be confident that content provider online services are part of the same market as the ISPs? Will the EU accept this deal without some concessions from AOL? Even if this deal goes through, if AOL can't integrate Compuserve can it really make money off its customers? Will they tolerate the advertising that AOL will try to force on them? Is AOL acquiring another vast supply of modems that will be obsolete next year? Yes, I am short and hurting, but IMHO nobody who bought this news will make money. -- Shoe
