My contention, based on my own experience, is that there was great publicity given to murders at that time because they were so dramatically outside the norm of social behavior...as I indicated in my note regarding a killing in S.F in 1954. Publishers often want writers to make their books as lurid or sensational as possible...it sells books, but doesn't mean that interpretations, without documentation, have much relation to actual events.
