george, nice piece. a couple thoughts. first, our military expenditure is much higher b/c we are paying for new zealand's protection so they don't have to ;-) this might have an impact on our ability to have a pseudo flat tax. the poor and lower classes might not be able to afford the defense that the country wants and the wealthier may have to pay a higher percentage. i don;'t know, though.

our rate would have to be higher than new zealand.

second, they cut subsidies to farmers and said very quickly that loans were reduced b/c the farmers had purchased at inflated prices. i assume this cam from the fed coffers. for this kind of change we would have to pay a lump sum up front to stop the subsidies.

uncle sugar is so big and everyone wants to cut everyone else's subsidies but not their own. everyone needs their gravy train cut, imho.

we need some creativity. we need a plan, not lies and/or another con like ss. tanstaafl. i hope it happens. i don't expect it to :-(

also, the article mentioned some pain before the good results. i don't think america is ready for pain.
