9:45AM: The early trade activity has been notably choppy. The major indices took a dive off the open only to be followed by a sharp move higher. At this point the markets are mixed with the Dow in negative ground and the Nasdaq slightly higher. The transports, biotechs, airlines and oil related stocks are each demonstrating early strength. Conversely, the gold, banks and retail sectors are on the defensive. Total volume traded is notably strong off the open. NYSE Adv/Dec 1251/1235, Nasdaq Adv/Dec 1517/800
