DOE Sec Richardson Attempting to Negotiate Anti Dumping Case

"My objective is to try to mediate this dispute to see if we can resolve it" before the Commerce Department decides on Aug. 9 whether the case has merit and can move forward, Richardson told reporters. "We have a lot of work to do."

Richardson made his remarks shortly before a scheduled meeting on Thursday afternoon with Mexican Energy Minister Luis Tellez, who has been lobbying against the oil dumping case.

When asked if the four targeted countries were willing to consider scaling back U.S. exports to placate independent American oil producers, Richardson declined to answer.
