Yes, there is no doubt that religious Jews are deeply attached to Hebron. The matriarch Sarah is buried at Kiryat Arba near Hebron, and Hebron is the home turf of the House of David. Zionist Jews will point out that Jews lived in Hebron for thousands of years, until they were first massacred by the Arabs, then deported by the British, in 1929.

However, I think the issue will become solveable if we can ever seriously discuss a Palestinian state that will allow some Jews to live there as equal citizens. I have never understood why everybody accepts the premise that Palestine should be free of Jews when there are a million Arab citizens of Israel.
