Tokyo, Japan, Nov 4, 2005 - (JCN Newswire) - NEC Corporation announced that its High Speed Download Packet Access (HSDPA) is ready to be delivered for use in commercial networks worldwide. The successful field network operation trial for NEC's HSDPA was carried out this summer through the cooperation of Vodafone K.K. in Japan.

During the trial, Node-Bs and radio network controllers (RNC) based on NEC's HSDPA achieved a high level of performance and functionality, including high-speed internet access among HSDPA-based 3G mobile terminals, consecutive data transmission and handover in a HSDPA service environment and flexible and variable change in transmission speed.

"The success of this trial highlights NEC's confidence in the performance of its commercial HSDPA system. Delivery of our HSDPA to commercial networks worldwide will begin this autumn. We also intend to carry out operation trials in Europe and Asia through the cooperation of local mobile operators to ensure its successful spread." said Ryuichi Takanohashi, General Manager of Mobile Solutions Operations Unit.

NEC's HSDPA system is jointly developed by NEC and Siemens. As the pioneer of the global 3G W-CDMA market, NEC/Siemens alliance has achieved outstanding success. Over 90% of the world's 3G subscribers are communicating with 3G network technology provided by Siemens/NEC. In a report from April 2005, NEC/Siemens was positioned as No. 1 by the independent MM Research Institute in Tokyo in the 3G W-CDMA market for commercially installed Node-Bs with a 30.1 percent share of the worldwide market.

NEC is a total solution provider for 3G and mobile Internet. It has been involved in every first-stage rollout of 3G systems worldwide. It is also responsible for developing the first 3G handsets for the world's first 3G networks. NEC has competence in the mobile Internet field with its mobile infrastructure system, mobile application platform and its impressive portfolio of contents. NEC's mobile handsets are known for their prominent technologies including large color screens, built-in cameras and other functions that make them ideal for use in the mobile Internet. In the 3G/mobile multimedia global, NEC aims to take strong initiative to create and obtain a leading position in the market.
