Sugar High: If I give my twin 2 year olds a box of Captain Crunch -- they will bang off the walls for the next two hours and then crash. If I give my brother my credit cards to spend freely with little to no responsibility for the costs/bill -- he is going to have a great time. If my government borrows billions of dollars it does not have the means to pay back -- it'll see a fast/sudden surge in economic activity. A few months later the bills will start coming in. Interest rates, despite other market factors, will be FORCED upwards becuase my government is now competing with ME and MY COMPANY to borrow even MORE money to pay back what it had no business in borrowing in the first place. In addition -- the benefits of my government's short-lived growth spurt have been FURTHER compromised by the fact that TAXATION on this "SUGAR-growth" is being taxed at far lower levels then just prior periods. So my government has little to no recourse accept to CUT SPENDING and further aggravate the very problem its attempting to solve. -JH
