As a longtime Pilot user (going on a year now) I can tell you:

Pilots are NOT a substitute for PCs of any sort. In fact, the Pilot is -designed- to be used with a PC. It's standalone utility is not all that great -- a paper organizer like a Dayrunner would be better.

Also, the Pilot with cumulative sales of still less than 2 million units hardly merits the kind of attention it has received.

Check back again in a generation or two, when the Pilot gets more horsepower and more storage. Flashram, anyone?
