CALABASAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 1, 1997--THQ Inc. (NASDAQ/NMS:THQI) Thursday announced that James L. Whims has joined the company's board of directors. Whims comes to THQ's board having both founded and managed several high growth, high profile companies in Silicon Valley. Most recently Whims was executive vice president at Sony Computer Entertainment where he headed the North American launch of Sony PlayStation. Under his tenure at Sony, the company's PlayStation game system captured 80 percent market share in the "next generation" hardware category. For his efforts, Whims received the prestigious 1996 Marketing Executive of the Year award from Brandweek/Adweek Magazine. Previously, Whims was integral to the successful restructuring effort at Mindscape Inc., a leading publisher of consumer software.
