Electronic Arts Inc sees game market growing

SAN FRANCISCO, April 30 (Reuter) - Electronic Arts Inc's chief executive said Wednesday that he expects the worldwide market for video game software to rise to $11 billion by 1999.

"We see the software business growing 15 to 20 percent overall this year," Larry Probst, Electronic Arts CEO, told investors at the Hambrecht & Quist Technology Conference in Sna Francisco. "We think
the business is going to grow faster in 1998 and 1999." The growth is coming from huge demand for a new generation of video game machines, led by Sony Corp's 6758.T PlayStation and Nintendo Co
Ltd's 7974.OS Nintendo 64, Probst said.

The number of game machines in the market will more than double to about 100 million by 1999 from an estimated 35 million this year, he said. This year alone, 20 million machines will be sold.

Probst also said Electronic Arts plans to ship the game Jurassic Park II, based on the new movie, by December.
