He sure didn't. Plus, he had the Carter runaway inflation beginning to get under control within months of his election.

The most important aspect of the Reagan legacy not that he didn't blame Carter or legislate by polls - but that he had the courage to lead. To get inflation under control - he made unpopular decisions that made the situation worse in the short term, but cleared the way to a rational policy that led to a sustained recovery.

What the Lib's fail to realize is that pandering to opinion polls is not a policy for a sustainable economy. While Reagan's economic policies were vilified as 'Voodoo Economics' by Keynesian Liberals, they actually worked.

Today's environment is dire, but in 1980 we were in bigger trouble
  1. Double digit inflation
  2. Double digit interest rates
  3. High unemployment

What was the situation in November 1980, 1984 or 1988?

Year Inflation Interest Rate (Prime) Unemployment
1980 12.52 15.5 (Peaked at 21% in December 1980) 7.5 (Peaked at 10.1
during his 1st term)
1984 4.25 11.75 7.2
1988 4.05 10.0 5.3

Arresting inflation was VERY unpopular and made unemployment worse at first, but by the end of his Presidency employment was at an all-time high and unemployment was at an 18 year low.

Obama is like Clinton with the polling and positioning, but with no internet bubble to help fund his government and no common sense.
