Dear Paul...so many things are racing through my mind right now. First. I am so so sorry. The news hit me like a ton of bricks. I can only imagine how you are feeling. I can know to an extent because of the similarities of how my dad, also a doctor died. He had the same surgery. Please listen to me and believe me when I say it was a blessing. I'll explain. My father had the same surgery after quad bypass. The annuerism is an indication of severe arterial and circulatory problems. You mentioned that your dad had problems in his carotid arteries before as well. After my dads annuerism surgery his legs started to go numb. They went in and stripped his leg artery out and replaced it with a cadaver artery. Which only lasted about six months. He had to sit in a chair most of that six months and keep his leg elevated. Eventurlly the cadaver artery clogged up and he had to have the whole thing done again except that time they went higher up his leg having to split him very deep to get the artery. This surgery lasted only about 2 months and got him on his feet long enough to attend my nieces wedding where he sat in a chair and ordered a few double bourbons on the rocks at the reception and got quite a buzz on...we later found out! I was happy he did...it was his last enjoyment that he had in this life. Looking back his last 4 years he had 7 major surgeries and suffered so much I still cannot believe the Lord allowed him to suffer that much. I feel that I was praying and did not want to lose him and I would have rather to see him suffer than to let him go so in that respect I think it was much my fault that the Lord was keeping him here for me . You did pray immediately that you did not want to see your father suffer and in effect God was quick to answer your prayer. My prayer for you is that you will not blame yourself and that you will see it was God answering your prayer. I do admire you for having the faith to pray the LOrds will be done and that you are able to let him go. If I would have it to do all over again I prayed the LOrd would have taken my father after his first heart surgery when he almost did not make it . I cannot begin to tell you how miserable he was the next 4 years of his life and how much more he suffered. In this respect I thank God for answering your prayer and for your having enough faith in God to pray it . God bless you my friend ..I am suffering along with you now in your grief and I can honestly say that I have been there. I extend my hand of comfort to you and let me give you a big hug and say how much you mean to me and I will say I truly love you and would hope that the Lord allow me to bear a portion of your burden right now...In Christ ...gregor
