Infineon turns profit of $53 million in first half of fiscal '99 Semiconductor Business News - 11/03/99 MUNICH -- Infineon Technologies AG here returned to the black with an operating profit of $53 million (DM 101 million) in the first six months of the fiscal year, ended Sept. 30, compared to an operating loss of $450 million in the similar period a year earlier. First fiscal half sales for the former Siemens Semiconductor subsidiary were $4.37 billion (DM 8.3 billion), up 33% from $3.53 billion for the similar period of 1998. The results for Infineon, which was spun out a year ago as a separate company, were broken out of the first six months' financial statement of the parent Siemens AG. The parent reported a 37% jump in net profit to $1.9 billion (DM 3.64 billion) from the year-ago period. The Siemens breakdown also listed operating profit of $149 million for the passive components and Epcos subsidiaries, down from $172 million for the same period a year ago. Sales for the group in the first fiscal half were $1.47 billion, up slightly from $1.37 billion for the same period of 1998. The electromechanical components division had operating income of $9 million, which was down sharply from $41 million in the year-ago period. Sales were $842 million, up from $789 million for the similar period of 1998
