I'm sure that no one reading this thread is actually interested in the facts, but, I feel compelled to present the actual information rather than the propaganda that was presented in the original post.

1)The increases in homicide and armed robbery cited were for 1997(vs. 1996). The new gun control laws were only enacted in 1996 and most weapons were not collected until late in 1997.

2)For the comparative period of 1998 vs. 1997 homicides by firearms declined by 30%. This is the first statistically relevant period to review the effect of the new gun control laws.

With regard to the post that noted that Hitler banned private ownership of guns, its a good point! The lesson is that if you are stupid enough to elect a right wing nut you're in big trouble.
