I agree. AMD is forever going to be playing "catch up" with Intel.
Even when AMD gets innovative and tries to leapfrog INTC, they
still have trouble gaining wide acceptance (witness the 29K vs.
the i960).

I think AMD is attractive for their flash and EPLD devices, although
I don't know if that will be enough to keep them in the game when
they've committed to throwing money at the x86 wars for the next
few years.
