I think you have answered you own question.

I did not discuss the quarter with them.

But the word "books" refers to when shipped not getting the order. When you book an order it means it is on the books as a receivable. The orders can come in even at the begining of June but it was also said on the thread that it takes 4 days from receipt of an order to ship it.

The CFO is a critical upper management person at any company and their presence is important at the end of the quarter unless things are on track. This is my opinion.
