I am in no position to judge the factors that led to the decision to greatly increase advertising spending but it was made clear in the CC that this was going to be risky and would have to be adjusted based on results. If I had to guess, it had something to do with achieving a commanding brand equity and lead against current and expected competitors. It remains to be seen if sacrificing a couple of quarters results against long term dominance will turn out to be a wise move or not.

It seems clear that the expected results were not achieved in the short term and the plan should be adjusted as stated previously. Surely it is not a crusifiable offense for a plan to fail.

It is easy to say that management's decisions were ill conceived in hind sight. It was known that it was risky to begin with, but that does not mean it's failure to achieve the desired short term results will be fatal to the company or will turn out to be bad in the long run.

Congratulations on your good fortune to be able to play a smart short term trading strategy on the heels of a plan gone awry. If it works as planned, power to you. If not, can I call you a dummy?
