Chip, one concern that I have regarding the Glide versus D3D/OpenGL issue is that I equate Glide support with leading edge 3D development. When TDFX wishes to introduce a hardware inovation, it can develop and distribute the Glide API to support that functionality at the same time. TDFX is not dependent on third parties such as Microsoft (D3D) and SGI (OpenGL) to support these innovations. Without the API support, wouldn't the hardware solution be meaningless? or at least inneficient? By having its' own API, TDFX has pushed these guys to support their innovations. Granted D3D is now catching up but I have to believe that this is only temporary. If TDFX does not have leading edge solutions in the pipeline and the technology can truly be "standardized" then TDFX has lost its' competitive edge. If TDFX must wait on Microsoft to introduce these innovations (as per their own agenda and development schedule), how can TDFX continue to be at the fore front of technology. As I said I'm not technical (and I'd like to hear some arguments on this issue) but I think that hardware innovation and Glide are one in the same. One final question: Isn't Glide 3.0 supposed to support features that will not be included in D3D 6.0? Joe C.
