If Obama can win Missouri or Ohio from McCain then you're right. But I'll bet he wouldn't even come close. 60-40% after the GOP runs 100 million worth of smear ads making Obama look like Saddam Hussein's nephew and Osama Bin Laden's cousin. It's not that people will believe such BS, but it does make them uncomfortable. The GOP knows how to open old wounds. Very old wounds. Which is what makes them so detestable.

It's not that middle American swingvoters in these states are racist, it's that they are traditional minded and are uncomfortable with rapid changes. Of course they may be so fed up with the GOP by then that any democrat can win, but if I could have any democrat as president of the United States I'd want someone much more experienced, like Kerry or Gore. I'd even be a bit uncomfortable with Edwards. The guy is great but he has almost no foreign policy and military experience. And Clark only has military and foreign experience.

Remember, Obama comes from the only state besides Massachusetts ever to elect a black to a major office. Illinois is very friendly to black candidates. Harold Ford wasn't so lucky. One racist ad and his campaign was finished. And Ford is more conservative. In fact I would say that Ford, if he'd get married, would be a more acceptable black candidate nationally, but not until about 2016 for either of them. And I don't want to run a woman either. Hillary Clinton is not the one we want taking back the WHite House. Let's go with our strongest suit. Pun intended.
