Alex,

The original concept GST articles showed an electrochromic roof and it had a bar running down the middle. This article is from 2002.

canadiandriver.com

The Vision GST also includes some special features, such as butterfly doors which open opposite each other; a roof with a large area of special electrochromic glass which extends from the front windscreen to the rear - the occupants can alter the tint at the touch of a button according to the intensity of the sun; and a sophisticated interior lighting concept with a new type of illuminated strip in the roof liner, the door panels and on the centre tunnel.

Now the bar is gone, there is no "white" color and it is wide open. Also, if you look at the video and photo gallery you will see the darkened roof as well as the clear and it is bluish in color.

When Daimler will formerly announce the roof technology is up to them, hence the vagueness from the customer service people. There is no other technology that can do this on such a large space. You cannot just use UV-blocking glass because if you live in Arizona or Florida, just parking the car will bake whatever you have in it (hopefully not your pets).

It's SPD. It's going in other vehicles as well. REFR has stated that most of the major car manufacturers have projects with licenses. Expect a lot more of this and more news in auto, aircraft and commercial glass.
